Rained Out

I was pretty upset when this session was rained out. I would have dragged them all out into the rain but it was also dark, dreary, and dank. Not the best climate for a newborn. Even one as tough as little Paulie J. I snapped some pictures anyway...

My poor blog is suffering, in large part because of my horrible file system. I am currently in the process of remaking my blog and website and it is taking me FOREVER! I really wish that I had put all the images from my original website into one folder but that would have made too much sense and sometimes I seem to lack any of that. Anyway, I will continue to plug along on my website in the meantime here are some images from September, which is almost over!

Amarillo, Texas: Cadillac Ranch

I have been meaning to post these pictures for close to a month now! I was planning on waiting until my new blog was up and running. But since that is taking QUITE a bit longer then I expected...

Don't tell anyone, but I am not sure what the point is of the Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo, Texas. If you have never been to this little tourist attraction, let me explain, it is a number of cadillacs half buried in the sand that are sprayed with graffiti. Maybe the point is there is no point. Regardless, we had lots of fun and enjoyed our little visit...

We visited the location with our dear friends several weeks ago...

I hope to have my new blog up soon as well as several big(ish) changes to my business.

A Wedding: Cara & Matt

Cara and Matt's wedding was beautifully simple, sweet and lacking any pretension. These are some good people and I enjoyed every minute with them.
They are such an incredible couple! Not only are the kind, caring, and generous to eachother but they treat everyone else the same way. The only thing I did not like about this wedding was that Dustin was not with me! I have officially decided that I will never shoot without him again. When I saw a great shot, I had no one to share it with!

Let's start with Cara, the beautiful bride...

The ceremony was held at Thompson Memorial Park, in view of the Amusment park where Cara and Matt met (at the bumper car ride)!

Married!

The BBQ was prepared by friends of the bride and groom and I loved, LOVED, that they forced me to eat! I think I was asked at least 6 times to sit down, take a break, and enjoy some food! Awesome!

I loved that at the reception people were having fun and celebrating and hitting the dance floor with a vengeance...

Cara and Matt! I am so glad that I met you both and that I was able to shoot your wonderful wedding. I wish you the best as Matt heads off to Basic Training. Let's get those horses ready for a trash the dress shoot :)

I heart faces: "Wedding Bells"

It is no secret that I am a big fan of Jasmine Star's photography, and blog. Not only is she a super talented photographer, with tons of gorgeous pictures to ogle, and a talented writer but she is also incredibly generous with tips, techniques, and advice for her fellow photographers.
While checking her blog this morning I came across her link to another wonderful little piece of blogdom. I heart faces. This is a great site for photography hobbyists and professionals to be inspired and motivated into capturing pictures with emotion and heart. If photography is not an interest of yours you can still enjoy the sites for the visual feasts they offer. Who doesn't like to look at faces?

I heart faces also offers a weekly contest, this weeks guest judge is Jasmine star herself! The theme is "Wedding Bells" and this image of Kristen from last weeks wedding is my entry for this week's contest! Whenever she was near Buddy this smile would light up and reach everyone around her. I loved that face!

Engaged: Cara & Matt

I am so looking forward to Cara and Matt's wedding in Amarillo this Sunday!! It is going to be laid-back, friendly, and comfortable so it should fit them perfectly.

Dustin and I were both able to shoot their engagement session and I had the most fun with all three of them.

Amarillo's well known rancher, Mr. Goodnight, must have been quite the cranky fellow...

A Wedding: Kristen & Buddy

I knew from their engagement session that Buddy and Kristen's wedding was going to be fun. They were such a great couple! Buddy loves to make Kristen laugh and Kristen, in turn, loves to laugh at him (in a good way)!

The day started with an early golf game for the guys...

Afterward, Dustin stayed with the groom and groomsmen while I joined Kristen and her bridesmaids...

The ceremony was at St John's Lutheran Church in Waller...

Man and Wife!

The reception was held at the Red Oak Ranch Pavillion in Hempstead. It was a big beautiful building with lots of windows (yeah for window light)!

I love, LOVE, that when I asked Buddy if he wouldn't mind doing more pictures (in the middle of the reception) because of the beautiful light outside he said "Sure"! Three cheers for Buddy! To top it off when I mentioned how cool it would be to get the entire bridal party outside he said "I'll go get them" and he did. Everyone came out and we played around for about 20 minutes. I was so happy I could have kissed them all. You all are AWESOME (and thanks for getting in the grass Kristen)!

Buddy and Kristen, it was such a joy and honor to shoot your wedding! We love how full of laughter and life you both are. We wish you the best and many, many, blessings in your marriage!

A Wedding: Laura & Ryan

We loved being a part of Laura and Ryan's wedding! Laura's smile never left her face and her joy was apparent to all. Ryan was calm, collected, and up for whatever Dustin asked him to do. They were a Wedding Photographer's dream! More than that they are incredibly modest, caring, and very much in love! It was also obvious that there guests loved them and that they loved them right back.

Blog Neglect!

Just wanted to give an update of why the lack of posts to my neglected blog!

In April we moved from Houston to Amarillo (a week after the birth of our second child), and things have yet to slow down for us!

Senior 09' : Katie

Katie was so fun to photograph, even though we had a crazy amount of wind that day. I have cancelled sessions for rain before but never realized how maddining wind could be, especially when the super-sweet senior I am photographing has long, gorgeous, mermaid golden locks! Wind aside, Katie was a blast to hang out with and we ended up with some stellar images!

Engagement : Kristen & Buddy

I have a pretty good feeling about Kristen and Buddy's wedding coming up in June. I think it is going to be a fun celebration and a joy to photograph. Not only are they a super cute couple but they are also quick to smile, make each other laugh, and just have a good time.
They chose to have their engagement session at Forest Glen, a camp that they have both worked at previously. It was a beautiful location, I only wish we had had more time to take advantage of the beautiful woods and lake.

Luke: A Newborn

Although Luke was not even three weeks old, he handled his session like a seasoned pro! He has such a sweet and mellow nature and was pretty much fuss-free (at times I did think he might leap off the bed, he is strong!!). Newborns change SOO fast and it is privilege to be able to record their tiny hands, and little details that make them so new and unique....

Luke has his Mom and Dad thoroughly smitten.

Congratulations to ya'll, It was so neat meeting your precious little boy and watching you love on him!

Senior 09' : Preston

When Dustin heard I was shooting Preston's images he was very excited to come along. You see Dustin LOVES Preston (sorry D, the truth is out). Dustin has had the privilege of being Preston's small group leader at our church for the last several years and he can not stop saying enough good things about what a awesome guy Preston is.

Jessica is everything her pictures would lead you to believe... Sweet, fun, a great friend, loving to her animals, and beautiful!! I loved that Jessica had taken the time to write her own list of images she would like for her session and that she wanted her pets included. Not only were her ideas creative (anyone for jumping off the roof onto a trampoline?!) but they were also such a great glimpse into her character!! When planning your senior session I highly recommended putting some thought into what YOU want and letting your photographer know! I am very glad Jessica did!

Senior 09': Katy

I love photographing Seniors, they are always so fun! At the same time, I always leave the shoots feeling a little guilty. I was such a slacker in High School! Really, what was I thinking?! It seems all the 09' grads are hardworking, with great grades, and college prospects. Katy was no exception. She already has an impressive amount of scholarships and is a strong runner in her school's track team. Not only was does she have a great academic work ethic but she is also super nice, beautiful, and just maybe a little bit goofy (or more likely she was trying to help me feel not so left out)!

Katy, I had blast hanging out with you, let's be sure to get in your track pictures whenever the track is open!

A Birth: Baby Avery

Celebration: 50 Year Anniversary

Marriage is not easy, so when I see a couple who has not only been married 50 years but also seems to enjoy each others company and show a happy love for each other, it is definitely something to be celebrated!

Engagement: Laura & Ryan

I may use this adjective for everyone I photograph, but I really mean it! Laura and Ryan are just so sweet! They are incredibly down to earth and easy to be with, I am super excited to be able to photograph their wedding this spring.

I am also very excited about the location they have chosen for their wedding, Huntsville State Park. I am a big fan of state Parks and just love that they have chosen such a beautiful spot of creation to exchange their vows.

I have no doubt that Laura will make a spectacular bride!

A Follow Up on Families

I love taking pictures of seniors, adore newborns and babies, and become very excited at even the idea of a wedding.

Families on the other hand I always approach with more frayed nerves than joy.

All those people, with so many different personalities and unique characteristics, how does one photographer do that justice?!

The Christmas season is quickly doing it's best to change my attitude!

Although I did not have the excited anticipation I have for most of my shoots these super-sweet families proved to me that groups are fun, full of energy, and a blast to shoot! I really had a great time with each of these special families and I believe that I will look forward to family shoots from now on! Here they are...

A Day In The Life: Justus

Justus's Mom called asking if I would take pictures of her son just being himself. No stiff poses or forced smiles, no "Say Cheese!", just a day in the life of her sweet boy. I was very excited as that is the type of session that I enjoy the most. I am sure there is a place for "traditional" posed photos, but the images I treasure from my own life are the "real" ones. Hudson: A Newborn

Wedding: Marie and Sam

Dustin: As Leah's husband, I don't often get a chance to blog, but I asked for the opportunity immediately upon our return from Sam & Marie's wedding. I felt compelled to get some of my thoughts out.

Sam & Marie's wedding was wonderful, and I was moved... (can I say this in a manly way?) ...to tears. Marie glowed, and Sam was smitten… Perhaps enchanted would be a better word to use for Sam.

Their love for each other was apparent to any drooling neanderthal who happened to witness it. Enter drooling neanderthal. The love of the Bride and Groom for each other, the joy of their union, and the anticipation of their future together; this is what makes weddings the best celebrations we have in life. It makes us think about what is important and worth holding on to. It helps us to realize what is truly good in life. And for some of us, it makes us hopeful and excited in anticipation of a greater wedding ceremony to come…

Marie played the piano, and Sam the guitar; together they led all in a time of worship to the Living God. This was beautiful. They subordinated the joy of their union, to the anticipation of the return of Christ. Enter tears.

Thank you both for the opportunity to join in the celebration. You are a beautiful couple, and I wish you grace, favor and blessing...

Cassie & Robert

Cassie and Robert were married several weeks at Northwest Forest Conference Center in Cypress, this was an amazing venue, and the grounds were beautiful with secluded ponds, a recreated Alamo and a gorgeous Spanish-style Hacienda.Apparently Cassie's dress had the smallest hooks ever, it took her a brother all his patience to get those snaps snapped. He was very devoted to his sister and was a big help through out the preparation.

Andrew, Cassie and Robert's sweet son, was a little charmer and his Grandfather was very much smitten with both his Grandson and Daughter.

Robert and Cassie, thank you so much for letting us be part of your day. Congratulations to you both and I wish you a long and happy marriage! I am up for a family session anytime!

By the way, ya'll had the best music selection of any wedding in the history of the known universe!!

Allison & Adam

First off, I must apologize to Alyssa for the lateness of this post. I know I said it would be up last night but that fun little storm knocked our power out until this morning. Having no electricity makes it very hard to work on the computer (I tried but nothing would happen)! So without further ado...

Allison and Adam had a beautiful wedding that I was honored to be a small part of, I also brought my wunderbar husband along to enjoy the ride. This was his first wedding as my sidekick, and he did an amazing job, the groom shots and many of the reception shots are his.

Hu Wedding

Brenda got in touch with me several weeks before her wedding to see if I would be interested in second shooting along-side Houston Photographer, Jose Valladares. I jumped at the chance, and waited eagerly for June to roll around. The wedding was held at St. Pauls Episcopal Church and it was obvious why Brenda had chosen it for her wedding. The church was quite stately and beautiful with stunning stained glass windows.

Not only did a gain a ton of experience and knowledge but I also had the pleasure of meeting one of the sweetest brides in Houston. Brenda was a Peach and beautiful to boot...
Her bridesmaids were not too shabby either:) It was apparent how much they cared about Brenda...
Since I stayed with the ladies before the ceremony I did not get many image of the groom and groomsmen, here they are looking dapper before Brenda arrived...Tony and his groomsmen after the ceremony More of Brenda and Tony.

I am looking for a few High School Seniors to be my reps in the Lake Conroe area for 2009.

Reps will receive:
-A complimentary Senior Photo session ($100 value)
-25 complimentary rep cards
Rep cards are basically business cards that have one of your pictures on one side, and my contact info on the other.

But wait! There’s more:
-You give out these rep cards to your friends, and for every one of your friends that books a Senior Photo session with me, you’ll get a $5 iTunes gift card. You do the math ('cause I forgot how), 25 free cards that could each score you $5 of music.

Just Because: Hannah

Who says you have to be passing a major milestone in order to get pictures? Hannah was up to braving the heat in order to get some pictures, for no other reason than just because. I had an impossibly hard time narrowing down the shots to my favorites, I would love to put up all the ones I loved but this post would be way too long...

She had never had "real" pictures taken before and I had a blast photographing her. She had lots of ideas but was also willing to do whatever I suggested, my favorite type of person to shoot!

We met late in the day in order to avoid the heat, but who are we kidding this is Texas!

Hannah, thanks for spending so much time with me, I can't wait for you to see the rest of your pictures. And a special thanks to Crystal for watching G, I'm sorry he was being such a crank! I'll make it up to you, pictures perhaps?!

The Z-Farm Kids

Here are more picture from the Farm. It was the first photo shoot where I was able to ride a 4-wheeler, so that was fun! Plus, this family is just great fun to be around.
Our first try of Grant Wood's iconic "American Gothic".Getting closer... Got it!Maybe I'm just feeling artsy today, but this picture has a very Bouguereau look to it. If you have never heard of Bouguereau you should check him out, he had some mad talent!Hannah, the eldest, is super sweet and cheerful... This Family loves to read, they even read together. Senior: Thomas

Thomas had his Senior portraits taken on the same day as Robert, and has been waiting patiently for me to post his pictures. So yes Thomas, it is true, I did save the best for last!

Thomas is ahead of the game and has been taking dual credit at the local community college while finishing up his Senior year. He is as good a guy as you could ever hope to meet. Ladies, I think he is eligible;).

Thomas, thanks for letting me shoot your Senior Portraits, and for keeping all the locals talking while I took Rob's pics!

More Senior Guys

Robert, otherwise known as; Rob Rob, Handsome Rob, Roberto, and Digga-Digga, holds a special place in my heart (to the left and up a little bit). He and his family are great friends of ours and I was especially happy to take his Senior Pictures. Not only is he a very talented musician, but he also possesses a sharp wit(when using it for good and not evil), and great taste in music, books, and movies (except "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy", whats up with that?). He had to leave early for praise band practice, so we did not have as much time as I would have liked, but we still got some great pictures...

Not only does he play the bass and acoustic guitar but he also rocks the drums for our churches' Youth Group and Worship Service...

A guy and his truck share a special bond (at least in Texas they do)...

Robert's cousin, Thomas, also had his portraits done that day. I will post the rest of his session soon, so check back and leave some comments, who doesn't love (nice) comments!!

West Coast Meets Gulf Coast

Karis had a great gift for her birthday last week, a surprise visit from her good friend from California, Lydia.

I grew up playing a Coleco Vision and "Oregon Trails" on the Commodore 64, so I am still very much amazed by the internet and the enormous changes it has made to our lives. Karis and Lydia are great friends even though they live in two different states and see each other once every blue moon. They stay in touch through all the web has to offer, in addition to the occasional "old school" phone call...Lydia and Karis, thanks so much for letting me be a part of Y'alls visit!!

Senior at the Farm

I have a couple senior shoots to post this week; strange thing is, they are all guys. Normally, the only guys I photograph are still running around in diapers, so it is a nice change to have a chance to work with a great group of older guys.
First up, is Daniel. I am not sure if anything phases this guy, he was polite, mellow, and very patient. It was hot and humid throughout the shot and he never offered a complaint. He was flying out a couple days after our session to perform at Carnegie Hall in NY with his H.S. choir group. He is also a musician and brought along his guitars for some shots...

Daniel, thanks for working with me on your Senior Portraits (and Martha, thanks for chasing cats out of the picture). I hope your NY trip was a blast!

I had a great time with Karis today, not only is she witty, smart, and fun to be around, but she is also "gorgeous" (as a some what strange man came and told us) and so very easy to take pictures of!

As we were driving away we heard the whistle of a train, so we both jumped out of the vehicle and grabbed this picture.

Brother and Sister

Jackie wanted some shots with her brother Danny during her Senior Session, it was very cool to watch these two interact with eachother. Danny knows just what to do to get Jackie to laugh, and Jackie seems to enjoy laughing...

19 Years...

I was very happy to take pictures for Dave and Gwen in honor of their 19th Anniversary. Not only is Dave my Pastor and Gwen my supervisor but they are also our neighbors and most importantly our dear and cherished friends.

It is awesome to see a couple who obviously still treasure each other after 19 years of marriage!

Dave and Gwen thanks for including me in your day and I hope your next 19 are even better!

Senior Portraits: Part I

By the end of Jackie's senior portraits I was seriously concerned for her safety! She banged her head while climbing into a tree and got a nice scrap/bump. Then she knelt down in some fire weed and got a lovely rash! I was a bit paranoid when she wanted pictures on the trampoline but no serious mishap to report. She is always laughing and is such a fun person to be around...

I was also lucky enough to photograph her brother Danny, and will post his pictures soon. A special thanks to the Zim's for use of their wonderful farm!

Another image processed with the NikSoftware. I am really digging this plug-in, it is easy to use and because it duplicates each layer with a mask it is easy to edit select portions of the image. And of course the beautiful child doesn't hurt!

The fun of Photoshop

I downloaded a trial version of Color Efex Pro 3.0 from NikSoftware. This is an awesome photoshop plugin that includes 52 filters and over 250 effects, you can perform high quality retouching, color correction, and endless creative enhancements to your photographs. Visit the website to see samples and download. I used several of the filters on this image and really like what I ended up with.

Courtney and Spencer

I was offered the chance to assist in shooting a wedding last weekend. I did not have a wedding of my own (Justice of the Peace for me-during lunch break from work!), so it is always an awesome time to be able to experience the joy and emotion of that day, I think I may have teared up at some point (just don't tell anyone). Courtney was the calmest, most relaxed bride I have seen. The thunder and rain that began during their outside ceremony seemed to not even faze her. Plan B was initiated without fuss and everyone moved inside for the remaining of the ceremony. Courtney was a gorgeous bride and I wish the best to her and Spencer (and Dayeton too!).

Friends and family crafted many of the decorations and details in the wedding. Courtney's shoes were ballet slippers, hand decorated by her Mother.

When I first arrived, the air was warm, the sky was blue, and there was not a cloud to be seen...

As the time for the ceremony approached, the sky filled with dark clouds, the temperature dropped, and the wind began to whip. Thunder and lighting soon followed...

The shower ended quickly and led to a beautiful sunset.

Gunnar was a little over two weeks old and was very alert and strong! I was afraid he was going to roll right off the ottoman, his big sister Kersten volunteered to put on her red dress for pictures too. She was a delight and very helpful to her Mom .

I love to photograph details. It could be the swirl of a newborn's hair or the pattern of frost on a leaf, just give me something I can get a close-up of and I am happy! I enjoyed taking pictures of Lauren and Michael's wedding and found that the majority of the pictures were of the "little things" and details that made up the day.

I had the privilege of shooting Michael and Lauren's engagement session several weeks ago. They turned out to be such a blast to work with and I had so much fun!

They were married last Sunday and had an intimate and beautiful wedding in which they were gracious enough to give me access to take all the pictures I wanted, in order to build my portfolio. It was a great experience to photograph their day and not be stressed about "blowing the shot" or missing key moments (she had aa awesome wedding photographer, check out his work at: http://www.danielcolvinphotography.com/Intro.html).

They were a photographer's dream as they were up to trying anything and looked good while doing it.

Lauren and Michael, thanks so much for trusting me with your engagement session. I will post some pictures of your wedding soon. Congratulations, I can hardly wait to do your maternity sessions;)

Sweet Baby

I wanted to get a couple pictures up of sweet baby Hannah for her family to enjoy. She was such a sweet and mellow baby and it is going to be fun to watch her grow!

Kyle

Kyle is Keelie's (from the Nov 16th post) big brother, and truly a very special little man. He was born with arthrogryposis and has been through countless surgeries, doctor visits, therapy, and rehabilation, but he still has such a sweet heart and smile. It has been awesome to see him begin walking and now he is even riding a bike by himself!

Katy is a great Mom and never seems to lose patience with Kyle. Not only has it been great to see Kyle grow but it has been awesome to see Katie's relationship with God grow as she relies on Him to get her through each day.

I thought Kyle had the neatest room, he should be able to pass any geography test!
